Augmented Reality mit 2D-Codes von ARTag

Ich hab gerade ein sehr interessantes Video gefunden. Mit Hilfe von 2D-Codes und einer Webcam, erzeugt ein PC 3-dimensionale Bilder. Das ganze nennt sich Augmented Reality und bedeutet soviel wie erweiterte Realität.

Und so funktioniert's:

A webcam feeds a video image to my laptop, which "reads" the 2d "barcode" markers. Based on the perspective of the marker, the computer is able to calculate the position in space that the camera is at. If a computer model is placed at the location of the marker, it can be made to appear as if the "virtual camera" looking at the computer model is located at the same point in space that the real camera is; the effect of this is that the computer model "tracks" the movements of the real camera.

Entwickelt wurde dieses, unter dem Namen ARTag bekannte, System von der Columbia University.

Neben dem obigen Magic Lens Video, kann man das System auch für das sogenannte Magic Mirror einsetzten:




Zugegeben sieht es etwas belustigend aus, macht aber bestimmt riesigen Spaß. Gerade der Erfolg der Nintendo Konsole Wii lässt erahnen, dass in dem Markt rund um Augmented Reality und Objekt- und Bewegungserkennung noch einiges passieren wird.
